ADDRESSING GENDER INEQUALITY AND ALL FORMS OF DISCRIMINATION

The general objective of this programme is to use adult education as a strategy to prevent and contest all forms of discrimination and build an understanding on the importance of addressing this issue through an intersectional approach.

The Gender and Education Office of ICAE has been a strong pillar of ICAE for years. GEO´s mission is to mainstream gender in the Adult Education sector, to ensure that women are granted the right to lifelong learning and to participation as active citizens.

"Adding Knowledge" is a capacity building programme designed and developed by the Gender Education Office of ICAE to promote women’s active citizenship through a theoretical and practical training.

ICAE–GEO joined the Women’s Major Group in 2010 and since then it has been an active member participating in all the virtual calls and important activities. ICAE has continued working with the WMG after Rio+20 and engaged in the work done in preparation of the Post-2015, doing advocacy for education, adult education, literacy and LLL. 

This group has enabled GEO’s access to spaces at global level where ICAE has been able to take its messages and consolidate its position.

The Women’s Major Group (WMG) was created as a result of the 1992 UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro. The role of the Women’s Major Group is to assure effective public participation of women's non-governmental groups in the UN policy processes on sustainable development. It contributes to the intergovernmental processes on Sustainable Development Goals and its link to the Post-2015 Development Agenda, the UN Environment Program (UNEP) and other outcomes of the RIO processes.

There are over 600 list serve members (organizations and individuals) from every region of the world, who work on gender, sustainable development and environment.
